Spring Classics Betting

Post by ghomer » Thu Feb 26, 2015 12:07 pm

This is the weekend it all begins. Arguably the most exciting part of the cycling calendar begins this weekend with the start of the Spring Classics. Anyone want to venture a guess on the winners of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne? Bragging rights and/or coffees on the line?

I'll start the ball rolling:

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: Kristoff
Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne: Stybar

If you feel like doing your own research I'd suggest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U85aXJkFd_Y and for those more statistically minded http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Oml ... Elite_2015 and http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Kuu ... uurne_2015

KBK looks like there's a fairly long flat-ish section before the finish with no monster climbs.... So I'm going to bank on Cavendish.

Omloop I'm wagering it will be Niki Terpstra

Well played Geoff. Your picks are spot on. If not those two in that order I'll go with Fabian on Saturday and Kristoff on Sunday.
These races are so rad. It's a good time of year to be a cycling fan.

Bonus challenge: name this cobbled climb.

Terpstra is my favourite, but I'll save picking him for the bigger classics.

Etixx is starting to look like Mapei. Again.

Ya. They look like they may dominate. So many options. I'd love to see Styby get it. If not now then one of the big ones.

They may dominate if they can get a handle on their 'tactics'. Pathetic. But tomorrow is a new day...

Strade Bianche this weekend. 2014 saw Michal Kwiatkowski best Sagan on the final pitch in to the finish.

I'm going with my man Stybar. I'll be betting on him until he gets a win this season.

Sagan with time to spare for a wheelie at 70kph.
