COTR 2015 -Bear Crossing

Post by aruss » Sun Oct 25, 2015 8:47 pm

A fast, flowing, but aerobically demanding course awaited COTR's today up at the Bear Mtn driving range amphitheater. Similar in layout to last years debut, this year had a couple new technical features such as a chundery off-camber descent into a 180 run-up.

Warm-up laps in hand, over 330 riders and an impressive 80 intermediate male field hit the course [Chaos Ensued]! Rain threatened but never materialized, providing almost ideal conditions. One of the best aspects of this venue is the ability for spectators to see the whole lap unfold from the start/finish area. This year the crew threw in some barriers near the tent area that had many spills with overeager hopsters. The day was full of close finishes including: Cruickshank and Cocksedge in the Master Men, Johnston and Hagen in Intermediate Women, and a thrilling Expert Men finish with Kupiak, MacKenzie, Lalumiere and Parkin all turning each over throughout the entire hour. Kupiak on a gloriously pink SS took the honours with a last lap surge.

We had 19 Wheelers out today to share some cross fever. Tops in their divisions included:

Beginner Men: Randy Smith - 3rd
Intermediate Men: Andy Pitre - 18th
Intermediate Women: Jackie Geiger - 13th
Master Men: Brian Green - 4th
Super Master Men: Michael Stevulak - 14th
Expert Women: Tanya Larkin - 3rd
Expert Men: Geoffrey Homer - 6th

Next up is in the COTR schedule is the Nanaimo Double-Header November 7/8. Known for their demanding courses, it should be another great weekend.
