Aug 9 - Newton Heights VCL

A warm, muggy, evening presented itself to a reduced number of riders at the final Newton Heights for 2017. In the A group 3 Wheelers attended: Duncan, Brian, and this reporter Andrew. As a whole the team rode smart and strong, having the upper hand in a number of key situations during the evening. BSC had a strong group out to contend for their first VCL win of 2017 and made sure to set the tempo early on. Andrew attempted a few attacks in the opening laps however things were not about to be split with other keen to keep a short leash. Mid-way through a few solo moves stuck for a few laps, including Duncan who gained upwards of 15s. Inevitably BSC would pull things back feeling confident in Raph for the finishing move. Coming up the climb towards bell lap Brian made a savy move went for the win. Andrew rode up beside Raph who was contemplating a chase. Being two abreast the group slowed up and suddenly Brian had a legitimate gap. Not until Eloi and Emile sacrificed themselves in the lead out to the final climb did the gap begin to come back. Andrew jumped on Emile once his pace began to lull on the ascent. Raph however had extra pepper in the tank and stomped over everyone on his way to an admirable win. Andrew and Brent duked it out for 2nd with the strongman Brent taking the honours. Duncan and Brian placed 5th and 6th after a race where they had given everything for the Wheeler win.

Things are winding down now on the VCL circuit with just one Windsor and one Caleb remaining. Eugene has a lock on the overall A title as does Rich with the overall B, a testament to the consistency on our teams efforts this season.
