Speedway #4

The final Speedway of the year had an excellent turnout, with guest appearances from a handful of national team triathletes including Victoria Wheeler, Matt Sharpe. The Wheelers were well represented so we split into two teams, Masters vs. Non-Masters.

The Masters Team: Eugene, Trevor, Marcel, Rich, Isaac, and Mark D.
The Non-Masters Team: Nick M., Sam, Riley, and Matt Sharpe.

Nick wanted to blow the doors off straight out of the gates and was successful in doing so, as he dragged Nick Rowe around for the opening 5 laps or so before the field managed to get organized and reel them in. From there it was continuous counter attacking, with Wheelers doing the bulk of it and Echappe keen to cover moves and tee it up for Nick Rowe in a bunch sprint.

In the last 5 minutes before the 5 lap count down, the paced lulled and everyone seemed to gather themselves for the sprint. With 4 laps to go, Trevor strung it out for a lap, before turning to hand it off to Echappe who decided to sit up. As they sat up, the pace lulled and instead of hitting the breaks I came out of the slipstream and went full throttle. Luckily there was just enough looking around and the right amount of "interference" from Nick, which allowed me to stay away for the final 2 laps and take the win. Nick covered a solo bridge attempt by Eugene and came around him at the line to take second. It was close on the line for 3-5 placings between Eugene, Isaac, and Nick Rowe.

4 Wheelers in the top 5.
